The Development Circle Platform

The Development Circle believes that via innovation and collaborative effort, the development sector can continue to increase its impact as a positive change agent within their own community and others. We are doing this by creating a network of informed development practitioners across the world who provide an informed, workshopped critiques of public institutions and policies, enabling the required structural changes to occur in support of the rising social entrepreneurial movements around the world.

The network operates by having independent groups in each capital city where there is interest. In Australia, there are groups in Brisbane and Sydney at the moment, with Melbourne forming at the moment. From month to month, these groups facilitate development related workshops and forums, with input from the public, private, academic and NGO sectors. Moving into a national and international model will see this model continue, but with innovative workshops allowing grass-roots constructive critiques and viewpoints consolidated and presented to governments, creating public policy support for social enterprise and effective development.

Definition of success:
Once we have a network of grass-roots movements in several countries who are healthy, vibrant and engaging meaningfully with enterprise and government - shaping the new political paradigm.
What makes your project innovative?:
Purposeful networks will be essential to the future grass-roots lead movements - which there are plenty at the moment. However, we must transcend activism and start to provide constructive input into the public arena. Let's shape the future public development policy of Australia and the world, ourselves!
What do you need help with?:
Currently the Australian network is housed in seperate websites (Sydney - sdc.groupsite.com and Brisbane - thedevelopmentcircle.com.au). We are attempting to build a new social media based site to enable effective communication across the network at TheDevelopmentCircle.com and would love some people to help out polishing this site off so we can launch it. So, in brief, if you have experience in wordpress, buddypress and/or PHP we would love to hear from you!
