What's this idea about?
In less than 100 words, what is your idea?:
The media is fixated with negative news, why? It's because we tend to look at the bad and try to stop it, forgetting that it’s much more rewarding and worth while to look at the good and nurture it. Our aim’s to nurture goodness by encouraging the media to report on good news. How? We will recruit an army of volunteers that will troll the web for good/fun news, unsung heroes and positive stories then embed it on the good news site. By doing so we encourage positive media and at the same time we have engaging TV.
What is the social need or challenge your idea could address?:
Negativity, injustice, glorifying violence, war, sensational media, lack of support for good deeds.
What’s really new about your idea?:
It’s about positive phycology a new way of thinking; It’s web 3.0 that is we are using the whole web for our content; The community will be the content generator and moderator; One place on the web to get you dose of good news.
Stage of development
What inspired you to come up with your idea in the first place?:
Too much bad news in the media; Lack of support for good deeds; The world is in need of good news now a day.
From 1-5, what stage of development would you say your idea is in? - Explain further:
1
What can we do for you?
Select which are the one or two most important things that you need to help the development of your idea:
Developer - to help you create your software
Funder - to give you some initial cash
If Social Innovation Camp is able to help push your idea forward, do you have the time or desire to take ownership of it?:
Yes
Anything else you want to tell us?:
I'm passionate about media, passionate about social change so I'm looking forward to get this project going. I have the experience to carry it forward but this project can not work without a team effort, can you join me in the search?

Re: Good News TV

Perhaps worth checking out: http://www.alternet.org/. They may have the ideological approach you are seeking on top of which you could add in the editorial/UGC functionality.

Re: Good News TV

Nice idea, but I agree with several other people that it might not be something that is sustainable/commercially viable. I think this stems from that fact that while we all agree that the news is highly negative, we still need to hear a lot of it in order to be informed. Watching a stream of videos about funny cats or the local firefighters would get old simply because it doesn't actually inform you. The trick would be to find a way to keep people informed about the various key events in the world, without the the ugly bits. Perhaps instead of focusing on "good news", you instead focus on eliminating certain parts of the news - the negative ones. For example, banish any violent news stories but promote stories that talk about security. Leave out the latest sex scandal and instead promote local concerts/events. If the economy is needs help, then promote stories that are taking action. Sounds like just a g-rated version of the news. As for a few name ideas - Rose-colored News or the Rosy Perspective, Pretty News (as opposed to the ugly news), Good Fortune Gazette, G-Rated News, Positively New or Positively Newsworthy... Good luck

Re: Good News TV

The business I'm starting is focused on producing content that would be complementary to this kind of project, so I'm interested in finding out more. I have some ideas about digital television licensing and "micro-casting" content to local communities that I'd like to add to the mix.

Re: Good News TV

Hi great idea. Not sure that I would want to look at a site that was all random good news stories - it could get a bit sickly sweet for me. But a site which allowed me to find good news story within a field in which I have an interest could be great, even energising. For instance, if I had an interest in grazing management or raising an autistic child, then I would seek good news stories of people succeeding in these endeavours. cheers Col

Re: Good News TV

I don't think I'd watch this station. I'd rather watch something escapist, like Heroes or YouTube, or one of a million other distractions that aren't about bad news. I wish you luck, I think the content you're proposing has merit, but you've got to compete in the attention economy, and I just don't see what the hook is.

Re: Good News TV

I think it is very important to have spaces where people can go to see what they want to see. My feeling is that we need more spaces to share good news.

Re: Good News TV

maybe you're right, and people will not find a good news videos exciting, - I hope you're wrong. I guess that is the challange "to make good news exciting and worth watching", in fact on youtube the best watched videos are about either good news or funny videos.

Re: Good News TV

Hi, great idea, I'd like to help. One note though, I'm not sure good news tv is the best name for it.

Re: Good News TV

Thanks Lucy, I assume tha's your name. The name is a working title, I would love people to comment and give me ideas for a name that means "good news tv" but has more of a community feel.
