Social Innovation in Indigenous Australia

In stark contrast to the quality of life enjoyed by the majority of the broader Australian community, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders experience considerable and multiple disadvantage in terms of any and every indicator, be it livelihoods, economic development, wellbeing or social inclusion.

With a long history of failed "social innovations" in the form of policy, programme and intervention, the contemporary landscape is fragemented and crowded with intermediaries, NGOs, qangos, government departments, corporate CSR and representative bodies.

In this context, creating a focus and network for Australia's leading community of social innovators, seems a good step towards galvanising around what works and sharing what doesn't.
