Adelaide - Free public lecture by Dan Hill, Helsinki Design Lab
Recipes for Systemic
Change from Helsinki Design Lab
WITH DAN HILL
The Social Innovator Dialogues in partnership with the Integrated Design Commission SA are pleased to announce a free public lecture by Dan Hill, the Strategic Design Lead at the Helsinki Design Lab in Finland.
Dan Hill returns to Australia in November to continue the global conversation developing around the areas of strategic design, urban policy and urban design. He will discuss the Helsinki Design Lab's Studio Model and recent HDL initiatives including Low2No, a Finnish program designed to help transition cities to a low carbon future by balancing economy, ecology and society through strategic investments and interventions in the built environment.
Helsinki Design Lab helps government leaders see the "architecture of problems." It assists decision-makers to view challenges from a big-picture perspective, and provide guidance toward more complete solutions that consider all aspects of a problem. This is strategic design.
This lecture will introduce the Helsinki Design Lab's use of strategic design as an approach for solving complex problems, drawing on Helsinki Design Lab's newly published book, Recipes for Systemic Change.
Formerly based in Sydney as Urban Informatics leader for Arup, Dan has worked extensively on urban projects within Australia and internationally, giving him a unique perspective on how the Helsinki Design Studio model might work in an Australian context. A member of the Integrated Design Commission SA Advisory Board, Dan also has a strong interest in how strategic design can help shape Adelaide's future.
A free PDF edition of Recipes for Systemic Change can be downloaded from theHDL website. Recipes for Systemic Change is a three part book including an introduction to strategic design, a how-to manual for the HDL Studio Model, and practical examples.
