Ideas invited to come to Social Innovation Camp announcement
For the upcoming Social Innovation camp, the Australian Social Innovation Exchange received 35 ideas across a range of segments including education, health & social justice. After much discussion and thought the panel of judges made their tough decisions on which ideas would be developed at the inaugural Social Innovation Camp.
These are the ideas that have been invited to join the camp:
- Refugee Buddy
- What's for dinner?
- An online Toolbox for Australian Social Innovation
- 2 Bob's Worth
- A Publically-generated Story guide to Community and Health Services
- Develop a car pooling database package for local councils
- Citizen driven stats
- Good News TV
All the ideas selected have already started working to develop their ideas further in preparation to the camp.
Social Innovation refers to new strategies, concepts, ideas & organisations that meet social needs of all kinds.
The web and mobile technologies provide a connectedness the like we’ve never seen before. This has created the opportunity to find better ways of functioning as a society and to also tackle some of the major challenges we now face including in areas of environment/sustainability or social justice.
Over the past year, ASiX has provided a platform for participants in to engage in Social Ideas Exchanges. These have been the catalyst for the development of these suggestions, the connection of people interested in this field and, the development of a strong and active community.
The Social Innovation segment is still relatively unknown to a large portion of entrepreneurial spirits, those who have a passion and desire to create a business of their own. Social Innovation offers the opportunity to create and manage a venture of Social Change that is also a sustainable, profitable business.
Some examples of Social Innovation include kiva.org or the Organic Health Response in Kenya
The camp, running form the 5th to 7th of March, 2010 offers participants a rare opportunity to collaborate with some of the most accomplished, exciting and driven people with a deep set of skills and experience across a range of industries.
There are still a few spots available for developers/programmers who have the drive of an entrepreneur but are also interested in Social Change.
Registrations of interest to be at the camp close on Wednesday, February 17th at 12 noon. We look forward to seeing you there.
The 1st Australian Social Innovation is an initiative sponsored by the Centre for Social Impact and Non-Profit Australia

Re: Ideas invited to come to Social Innovation Camp announcement
People are still looking for loan even our government support bills for unemployed person, as to what I can see right now. And yet, there's a lot of talk about economic recovery, and the White House has been talking about the attack on the middle class. Well – it turns out there has been a steady wage decrease for the average worker since the 1970s. Dollar amounts have increased, yes, BUT combined with inflation, and the costs of goods and services which increased above the rate of inflation, it turns out a lot of economic problems are wage problems. It isn't exactly mysterious why more people need payday loans than ever before. If the average buying power has decreased, but executive buying power has only INCREASED (which is has), then we have some larger problems that need addressing.
