The Development Circle Platform

We are forming a global network of informed development practitioners who provide an informed critique of public institutions
The Development Circle believes that via innovation and collaborative effort, the development sector can continue to increase its impact as a positive change agent within their own community and others.
Definition of success:
Once we have a network of grass-roots movements in several countries who are healthy, vibrant and engaging meaningfully with enterprise and government - shaping the new political paradigm.
What makes your project innovative?:
Purposeful networks will be essential to the future grass-roots lead movements - which there are plenty at the moment. However, we must transcend activism and start to provide constructive input into the public arena. Let's shape the future public development policy of Australia and the world, ourselves!
What do you need help with?:
Currently the Australian network is housed in seperate websites (Sydney - sdc.groupsite.com and Brisbane - thedevelopmentcircle.com.au). We are attempting to build a new social media based site to enable effective communication across the network at TheDevelopmentCircle.com and would love some people to help out polishing this site off so we can launch it. So, in brief, if you have experience in wordpress, buddypress and/or PHP we would love to hear from you!
Area of interest:
Service design and public sector
Poverty, wealth

FlavourCrusader

An Instagram for foodlovers who want to connect to good food

We're developing apps (iPhone and Android to start) to help food citizens (farmers, gardeners, cooks and conscious shoppers) champion real food by sharing the food they grew or cooked. Corporate food has failed us; it's our time to shine.

Definition of success:
Project running
What makes your project innovative?:
By cooking, connecting and sharing, foodlovers can make great change - one meal at a time.
What do you need help with?:
I'm refining the app with feedback from farmers now. We aim to help them educate, build relationships with food-lovers, amplify word-of-mouth marketing to increase sales and gain fair prices. Oh. And take down corporate food! For this round of research, they should be selling in Sydney and be social media savvy (e.g. use Twitter or Facebook). If you know a farmer who fits the bill, ask them if you can share their details with me so I can get in touch. Here's why we're doing this (http://bit.ly/ov88Lw) and here's how (http://bit.ly/oxhjXK). You can email me at info [at] flavourcrusader [dot] com ====== Also, if you're a food-lover - a cook, gardener or conscious shopper - get in touch if you'd like to be involved.

Help create the future of food

A lone strawberry farmer at a bric-a-brac market planted the seed for FlavourCrusader.

His strawberries were amazing–oozing with sweetness and a depth of flavour I had never experienced. The strawberries were soft; their colour dyed my fingers. I told my friends. I emailed others. I blogged it. Go to Rozelle markets for the strawberry man!

I had gotten out of the habit of eating fruit after living in London; it was tasteless. It was pointless. The delicious strawberries were the catalyst for me to begin eating fruit again.

Canberra solution design and architecture evening

At 6pm on 25 November 2009 we'll be holding a design and solution architecture event in Canberra. Over the last few months the Australian Social Innovation eXchange has been facilitating social innovation workshops around the country. Ahead of the main SICamp event taking place next year we are starting to looking at advancing some of the proposed ideas to the next level.
