Social Innovation Camp: Projects Updates 1 year after - Part 1
It has been just over a year since our inagural Social Innovation Camp. The projects that participated of the weekend are at different stages with some of them being almost ready for to launch and all of them still needing support from the ASIX community. These are the first updates from the projects that came to the camp:
Refuge Buddy from Joy SulimanIn the year since the camp, Joy has continued working on refugee buddy, and is hoping to start seeing the results of that work in the near future. She has worked on streamlining the concept and worked out how to make the project financially sustainable and manageable in the broader picture of her life. She is currently approaching Sydney based organisations to run a trial of refugee buddy. In the next few weeks she will be holding a stakeholder consultation, and putting the call out for people to volunteer to become refugee buddies as part of the trial.
Joy says: "I'm really grateful for the help and support of the social innovation community so far. if anyone has any contacts in community organisations which are undertaking refugee settlement, I'd love an introduction. Otherwise, keep an ear out for the call for volunteers and let people know about it."
How you can help her: If you know anyone within community organisations providing support to volunteers, join the project and add your message.

In the weeks after the camp, Sharon had continued working on the platform idea but she thought something didn't feel right. After a break, she scaled the idea down.
Sharon then decided that FlavourCrusader will still help people find and create delicious fresh food, yet the initial emphasis is connecting people to nature and produce. The first step is an Australian fruit and vegetable seasonal iPhone app. Sharon recently conducted a quick workshop at Social Innovation Sydney and will be acting upon that soon.
We asked Sharon a few questions to learn more about her experience duing the past year:
Q. How has the camp experience impacted in your life?
Taking part in the camp opened me up to more collaboration; I've always been independent but when the goal is greater than one it's best to work with others. James McParlane has stepped in with development and Grant Young has contributed through research, prototyping and testing.Talk about lucky!
I also began tweeting because of the camp; I now count a lot of farmers as my online friends ;) It's been really fun working on design that's more than visual or interaction. Designing for behaviour change is the ultimate brief; helping people make delicious decisions is the base upon which we we will build.
Q. What are your plans in the next few months?
The next few months is about finally production. Hooray! I'm finalising the content. I've done conceptual designs for the app, blog and landing page. We'll have a quick UI jam. Some mods and then front-end code.
Q. What can the ASIX community do to help you?
Do you love to cooking, growing or eating good food? Want to help people eat delicious and nutritious food. More sustainably? Or just love mobile?
We need a html/css coder to get on board. If you want to learn how to mark-up for mobile, now your chance!

Re: Social Innovation Camp: Projects Updates 1 year after - ...
This is great! I had the pleasure of being at the camp last year, so getting a "where are they now" peak is really inspiring. Thanks!
